GRC



An introduction:
Glass fiber reinforced concrete (GRC) was recognized in 1969 as a useful material for designers, architects and engineers, and as an environmentally friendly concrete compound.
Today GRC is a durable, lightweight material that can be molded into countless shapes and applications. By looking to developments of uses GRC material by following the history from the late seventies to its recent uses in the fields of agriculture, sanitation, architecture, concrete casting molds and railway channels.

Constituent materials:
GRC is a composite material consisting of Portland cement and fine gravel (sand) reinforced with anti-alkali glass fibers in addition to some special chemical additives. Within this definition, changes are possible by changing the mixing ingredients and their proportions, and the manufacturing method, which is used to produce materials with different properties. All factor for GRC, material properties, mix design, and manufacturing method are related to GRC Quality.

Performance:
The characteristics of GRC depend on a wide variety of variables. This new formula, mixing formula, fiberglass type, length and orientation, ductile material, etc. GRC material can add up to special complexity.
Breakage resistance and tensile strength, will be increased due to reinforcement of fibers. The GRC is composed of reinforcing elements randomly distributed throughout the mixture, at variance of reinforced concrete where the reinforcement is in places of tensile stress over an area of the surface to give a protective steel template. In practical terms this means that GRC designed a homogeneous material. Safe products, good chemical property and do not rot and corrode.

Features:
GRC is usually relatively thin in section, with thicknesses approximately from 10 to 15 mm. This gives a low weight factor, thus allowing for savings in shipping, storage, transportation, and installation operations compared to traditional concrete goods
When reinforcing cement materials with fiberglass, the strength of the product increases dramatically to 20 times, while the weight of the product is 10 times less, due to the thinner and stronger wall sections. The claim that a product (armed with fiber) is meaningless without clarifying the type, content, formula and length of the fiberglass. It is a delicate craft that requires ingenuity and caution.
